“Community Interpreting takes the interpreter into the most private spheres of human life. It does not take place at negotiations about major international political decisions or conferences on recent scientific discoveries; it takes place in settings where the most intimate and significant issues of everyday individuals are discussed."
(Community Interpreting, Sandra Beatriz Hale 2007)
Face-to-Face Interpreting
We provide two forms of face-to-face interpreting:
Consecutive: The CITRUS interpreter will wait until the end of the speakers’ sentence before interpreting. Used in client – interpreter – commissioner situations in formal or informal settings.
Simultaneous: The CITRUS interpreter interprets whilst the speaker is speaking. Used in meetings or social gatherings involving groups with different language needs.
Conference Call or Telephone interpreting
If face-to-face interpreting is not convenient or the assignment does not need to be as personal; for example: exchanging and/or gathering information, then CITRUS can initiate a conference call between all parties or a telephone exchange between the client and interpreter.
VDO Interpreting (UNDER DEVELOPMENT)
Interpreting is carried out remotely, using a video camera or webcam that enables an interpreter in a remote location to both see and hear the parties for whom he/she is interpreting via a monitor or PC. The interpretation is relayed to the principal parties by the audio system of the PC or monitor. This service is currently being developed, please contact the Development Manager for further information
Translations
CITRUS interpreters are trained to translate documents from simple leaflets and brochures to local government and business documentation, delivered electronically either as Word or PDF files, typeset and ready for printing.
CITRUS interpreters will also provide sight translation of short documents which are usually paraphrased.
Cultural Awareness Training
CITRUS, in association with CCP Training, has developed training programmes on cultural and linguistic issues that may improve the effectiveness of an organisations service.
Community Interpreting Training
CITRUS, in association with CCP Training, delivers the Open College Network Accredited Public Service Community Interpreting Level 3 programme.
Previous students on the course have come from the growing diverse communities of Northamptonshire as well as individuals from organisations that understand the importance of having professionally trained staff.
