Community Engagement
About Us
‘Community engagement refers to the process of getting communities involved in decisions that affect them. This includes the planning, development and management of services, as well as activities which aim to improve inequalities
(Popay 2006).
In June 2006, CCP commissioned research into the needs of minority ethnic communities. The research included a number of consultations: 17 structured interviews with people from different communities, 2 forums with young people aged 12 - 15 years, 90 individually completed questionnaires.
The aims of our project are to:
Organise and arrange a number of information days and life skills workshops which will enable people from all our communities to learn about how they can access services from statutory agencies, voluntary and community groups.
To arrange and pro-actively seek out, encourage and empower the socially excluded or isolated to attend a range of social events; drop in sessions; information days; community events and facilitated sessions to enable people to come together in a social environment.
To pro-actively seek out and encourage people from new communities to become engaged in a variety of group's e.g. conversational English classes, parent's groups and women's groups, which we will establish and support.
To establish regular community forum meetings to build a good network for intercultural dialogue to take place giving all communities a voice.
This will ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity and the necessary resources to improve their health, well being and quality of life.
Corby has an increasing number of multi-cultural communities coming to live and work in the town and CCP is pro-actively working toward giving advice, support and information to these new communities.
As Diversity Officers we will be supporting the development of individuals and building the capacity of groups, to enable them to arrange events and develop their own organisations and become sustainable within the community.
